Baines' Camp

Baines' Camp

An exceptionally romantic retreat in the heart of one of Botswana’s private concessions, Baines’ Camp offers an incredible safari experience. Sanctuary Baines’ Camp is known for its unique “Living with Elephants” experience as well as desirable year round wildlife viewing opportunities.

Nestled in a grove of trees and surrounded by papyrus beds, the camp features a refreshing pool and expansive elevated viewing deck providing ideal places to view the wildlife in the lagoon below. Full English and continental breakfasts are served before guests depart on the morning game drive, and a daily highlight is the elegant high tea served in the afternoon.

Five luxury suites built on raised platforms overlook the Boro River, home to a pod of hippos. Plush, four-poster beds can be wheeled onto your private deck to enjoy a brilliant night under the African starscape. Guests can also end the day by indulging in their suite’s personal star bath, also on the viewing deck. En-suite bathroom, spacious accommodation, traditional safari and ceiling fans enhance an intimate stay at Sanctuary Baines’ Camp.

Game drives led by experienced guides in 4x4 vehicles allow guests to encounter the vast array of wildlife that the Okavango Delta has to offer. The day and evening game drives visit a variety of ecosystems, from deserts and savannas to lagoons and swamps. Guests explore the area for lion, leopard, buffalo, cheetah, giraffe, impala, zebra, wild dog, hyena, hippo, and more.

The highlight of any visit to Baines’ Camp is the “Living with Elephants” experience, a chance to interact with a trio of orphaned elephants adopted by Doug and Sandi Groves. The three semi-habituated elephants named Jabu, Thembi, and Morula “lead” guests on long walks as they forage for food, take showers in the lagoon, and explore the Okavango Delta.

In addition, the camp offers other unique ways to explore the region, including walking safaris, mokoro (native dugout canoe) and motorized boat excursions, and scenic helicopter flights.
