Chobe Marina Lodge

Chobe Marina Lodge

Chobe Marina Lodge is on the border of the world famous Chobe National Park in the town of Kasane, Botswana. This is where Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Namibia come together. The camp is surrounded by over 4,500 square miles of wildlife management areas and reserves that allow game to roam freely.

Home to all of Africa’s “big five,” the Chobe area is particularly well known for its large herds of elephant and buffalo. The region is also home to two antelope species that cannot be encountered anywhere else in Botswana, the puku and the Chobe bushbuck. Watching the elephant families drink and bathe in the river is an unforgettable sight, all the more impressive when herds of buffalo, rafts of hippo, and gigantic Nile crocodile are part of the scene. Lion and spotted hyena are frequently seen on the floodplains, where red lechwe, puku, zebra, sable, and roan come out to graze.

The lodge has 66 rooms of various sizes, all of which face the Chobe River. Amenities in the rooms include air-conditioning, satellite television, and mini bars. Families are accommodated in two or three bedroom units.

Meals at Chobe Marina Lodge are excellent. The Commissioner's restaurant offers a la carte riverside dining. The Mokoros Family Restaurant is more relaxed, and the pool-side bar offers a light lunch, a barbeque, or just cool drinks. Sundowners can be enjoyed at the Riverside Bar.

Game drives into Chobe National Park offer excellent game viewing opportunities. All the major species are here: giraffe, elephant, zebra, impala, tsessebe, roan, sable, wildebeest, kudu, buffalo, waterbuck, warthog, and eland as well as accompanying predators including lion, hyena, jackal, bat-eared fox, and even cheetah and wild dog.

While the wildlife is great, the lodge also offers many resort-style activities. A river boat cruise into the park or a leisurely sightseeing cruise to Sedudu island are special favorites. The Cathari Health & Beauty Spa invites you to pamper yourself with their menu of body services, facials, and hands and feet treatments. There is even a golf course in close proximity to the lodge.

Because of its location in Botswana’s extreme north, day trips to the iconic Victoria Falls are a possibility, and activities there include white water rafting, shopping, bungee jumping, and more.
