DumaTau Camp

DumaTau Camp

Overlooking a lagoon near the source of the Savute Channel, DumaTau Camp offers the best of the Linyanti Concession. This part of northern Botswana is known for its swamps and flowing waterways due to its proximity to the Linyanti River (known as the Chobe River further downstream). Year round, but especially during the dry winter months, the Linyanti teems with life.

DumaTau Camp is situated in the shade of a mangosteen grove. The 10 luxury resident tents are remarkably spacious, each accompanied by an en-suite bathroom and outdoor shower. The common area encompasses a lounge, pub, dining room, swimming pool, and expansive viewing deck.

Game drives along the Savute are the premier activity here, but water levels permitting, guests can also enjoy cruises on the channel itself. Like so much of northern Botswana, the Linyanti has high concentrations of plains game including impala, wildebeest, red lechwe, zebra, buffalo, and antelope. And though DumaTau means “roar of the lion,” the region is best known for the large herds of elephant that frequent the waterways during the dry season. Yet one should not fail to appreciate the numerous predators that also roam the grasslands and swamps, including lion, cheetah, wild dog, hyaena, and leopard.
