Little Tubu

Little Tubu

Below Botswana’s panhandle lies the game-rich Okavango Delta which encompasses the nearly 150,000-acre Jao Concession. Within the concession, Little Tubu is a newly opened safari camp located on Hunda Island, the largest area of dry land during flood season. Due to the surrounding wetlands, endangered birdlife flourishes alongside lush acacia trees and diverse populations of reptiles and mammals.

Spectacular views await from the main lodge’s dining, bar, and pool areas, and each building has been purposely designed to blend into its natural environment. From the main lodge area, raised walkways lead to three traditionally styled tents on raised wooden platforms. Privacy is at a premium, and each tent boasts spacious room, private viewing deck, outdoor shower, and en-suite bathroom.

The Okavango’s varied birdlife is especially impressive around Little Tubu. From the endangered wattled cranes, rosy-throated longclaws, African Skimmers, and Slaty egrets to Pet’s fishing owl, the coppery-tailed coucal, and the pygmy goose, the area is a paradise for bird enthusiasts.

Guests of Little Tubu can expect sightings of some of Africa’s most sought-after creatures in this animal-dense region. Rainy season in the wetlands features sitatunga antelope, red lechwe, hippo, and crocodile. During the dry season, lechwe, wildebeest, zebra, lion, cheetah, and leopard are all regular visitors. Twice-daily game drives in open 4x4 Land Rovers allow for optimum game viewing and provide opportunities to photograph these magnificent animals in their natural habitat.

Other exciting adventures introduce guests to the creatures of the African wild. A night game drive with a spotlight is perfect for highlighting captivating nocturnal animals. Explore the Okavango Delta in a twelve-seater boat or a mokoro, a traditional canoe. Fish on the delta with the camp’s basic equipment, or secret yourself in the raised hide twenty minutes from camp. Ideal for capturing glimpses of the area’s most elusive wildlife, the hide can also be reserved for overnight use.
