Mashatu Tented Camp

Mashatu Tented Camp

Hidden in Botswana’s Northern Tuli Game Reserve is one of the region’s best-kept secrets. Mashatu Game Reserve, named for the local sacred Mashatu tree, uniquely combines eco-tourism with sound scientific research with the goal of conserving and managing Mashatu’s unique wildlife populations. From forests and plains to rivers and marshlands, almost one hundred square miles of adventure awaits guests of Mashatu.

In addition to the main camp, for the most adventurous guests Mashatu offers a tented camp 45 minutes from the main camp. Eight exclusive tents placed on concrete bases include spacious sleeping area, private outdoor en suite bath, casual outdoor dining atmosphere, and plenty of opportunity to experience a close-up of the surrounding African wildlife.

Elephant, lion, and leopard, three of Africa’s “big five,” call the area home, earning Mashatu its nickname “Land of Giants.” The largest land mammal, the elephant, wanders in some of the largest herds on private lands. Mashatu Reserve is also a safe haven for the giraffe, the world’s tallest mammal. Rounding out the “giants” are the eland, the world’s largest antelope, and the ostrich, the world’s largest bird. Other notable species include the Kori bustard, aardwolf, bat-eared fox, African wildcat, honey badger, black-backed jackal, wild dog and a seemingly unending parade of captivating bird species.

In addition to twice-daily game drives, guests can also enjoy one-of-a-kind adventures such as horse safaris, mountain biking safaris, predator drives, walking safaris, cultural tours, and specialist research activities.
