Muchenje Safari Lodge

Muchenje Safari Lodge

Muchenje Safari Lodge is west of Chobe National Park, forty minutes from Kasane and two hours by road from Victoria Falls. It is unique for a number of reasons. It sits on an escarpment giving it spectacular views of the Chobe River and Namibia’s Caprivi Strip; it is owner-run and managed and thus more able to personalized service; and being in the Chobe Forest Reserve allows it to offer game walks and night drives that create an incredible wildlife experience.

Muchenje is proud of the quality and variety of the wildlife experience it offers. Chobe’s incredible wildlife diversity and concentrations will surprise and delight even the most experienced safari-goers. The park is home to four of Africa’s “Big 5,” but it is known world over for its elephant and buffalo herds. Expect to find lion, leopard, wild dogs, many grazers, and an astonishing array of bird species. Chobe National Park includes vast landscapes, open plains, Baobab Trees, and ancient woodlands. The elephant population, estimated to exceed 45,000, is the largest single concentration surviving in Africa.

Muchenje’s main lodge building overlooks the Chobe River and its floodplains. It features a dining area, bar, reception, curio shop, game viewing platform, and library. The swimming pool is built among natural rock formations and offers spectacular views, making it a great place in which to relax during the heat of the day. Muchenje retains a feeling of exclusivity as there are only eleven bungalows, all of which are newly refurbished and have en-suite bathrooms. The bungalows have twin beds, and each is beautifully appointed in true Africa style.

Meals at Muchenje are served table d'bush and are wholesome and plentiful. Guests dine together on a long railway sleeper dining table. Vegetarian and other special meal requests are accommodated.

Activities at Muchenje center around daily game drives in open 4x4 safari vehicles. The lodge also offers river cruises where guests can drift silently past bathing herds of elephant and enter the world of river creatures such as hippo and crocodile. Birdwatching is particularly spectacular on the river! Other favorite activities include walking safaris, night game drives, and visits to a local village.
