Stanley's Camp

Stanley's Camp

Sanctuary Stanley’s Camp is a sophisticated getaway within Botswana’s Okavango Delta, situated in a 260,000 acre private concession. Known for its unique “Living with Elephants” experience as well as desirable year round wildlife viewing, Stanley’s offers an unforgettable safari experience. The camp’s proximity to the Moremi Game Reserve allows guests to explore the area extensively through non-traditional means such as walking safaris and night game drives.

Stanley’s Camp is nestled in groves of ebony and sausage trees surrounded by an ever-changing landscape. From the camp itself guests can enjoy panoramic views of the Okavango floodplains and incredible wildlife as animals trek through the lush grass or dry savanna (depending on the time of year). Spacious and comfortable dining and sitting areas, swimming pool, and boma enhance the main lodge.

Eight classic safari tents have been individually designed to provide a restful end to an exciting day on safari. African antiques combined with elegantly traditional décor are reminiscent of the British colonial era. An expansive private viewing deck boasts a hammock, daybed, and area for an intimate dinner, if desired.

Adventure-filled game drives led by experienced guides in 4x4 vehicles allow guests to get close to the vast array of wildlife that the Okavango Delta has to offer. Water crossings are part of the journey, and game drives are often combined with motorized boating excursions. Poled mokoro (local dugout canoe) excursions introduce safari-goers and animals to each other in a gentle, quiet way. Crocodile, hippo, buffalo, fish, eagles, frogs, and beautiful lilies are just some of the incredible sights enjoyed on the river.

Several active hyena dens near the camp allow for excellent viewing of these nocturnal predators. Evening game drives provide access to bush babies and big cat predators such as leopard. An immense concentration of wildlife including elephant, buffalo, endangered wild dog, zebra, and many more makes for an unforgettable safari experience.

The high point of a visit to Sanctuary Stanley’s Camp is the “Living with Elephants” experience, the chance to interact with a trio of orphaned elephants. The semi-habituated elephants Jabu, Thembi and Morula “lead” guests on long walks as they forage for food, take showers in the lagoon, and explore the delta.

In addition, the camp offers other unique ways to explore the region, including walking safaris and scenic helicopter flights.
