According to Martha Honey, in her book Ecotourism & Sustainable Development, “Ecotourism is travel to fragile, pristine, and usually protected areas that strives to be low impact and (often) small scale. It helps educate the traveler; provides funds for conservation; directly benefits the economic development and political empowerment of local communities; and fosters respect for different cultures and for human rights.”
It seems that today the word eco-tourism has become little more than a buzzword due to its extreme overuse. At Piper & Heath we strive to adhere to ecotourism in the true sense of the word. We want our travel to make a difference. From this desire, Exposé was born.
Once a year, Piper & Heath identifies a location that adheres to the Piper & Heath prerequisites of an ecotourism destination, but is lacking in exposure to mainstream travelers. We then use our resources to bring together a photographer, travel writer, and a set number of guests to go explore this destination. Upon our return, we will endeavor to expose this location to the travel community at large. Piper & Heath will take no profit on these expeditions. The trip will be led by Piper & Heath owner, Chris Liebenberg, and will be a unique opportunity to explore lesser known areas. By exposing these locations to more travelers it is our hope that these destination will succeed, and that the communities and environment they support will reap greater benefits.
If your travel needs generally lean toward areas that are less explored and you are willing to visit areas that may still be in the early stages of developing their operations, then Exposé may be the trip for you.
