Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge

Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge

Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge was the very first lodge built in a national park in Kenya and is set adjacent to an impressively busy waterhole. With majestic views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the area has been referred to as,” The place of lions and lava.” The lodge is in Tsavo West National Park, close to the Mitta Andei Gate, about equidistant between Nairobi and Mombasa, on the Nairobi/Mombasa highway.

The lodge has 56 elegant bedrooms that are all beautifully decorated using local materials. The color schemes reflect the golds, blues, and greens of the surrounding savanna and sky. The rooms include five suites and 51 standard rooms, of which 22 have king-size beds and 29 have twin beds.

The waterhole at Kilaguni is considered to be one of the premier waterholes in Kenya, with terraced savanna game viewing of zebra, buffalo, elephant, antelope, warthog, and others. At night, the sounds of grazing buffalo and elephant seem to come from just outside your bedroom walls.

The lodge's central restaurant is partially open-air, and its breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus offer a wide range of cuisine that is sure to suit all palates. In addition, a bar/lounge and separate poolside bar are frequently open for drinks.

But for that something special, the lodge staff is expert at arranging cocktails and dining in the bush, either near the lodge or at special sites within the park. This is done “safari-style” and is not to be missed.

Activities at the lodge center around daily game drives, but also include guided walks, bush breakfasts, and volcano climbs. Within the lodge guests can enjoy the outdoor pool and separate children's pool or relax at the luxurious spa will enjoying a massage or facial. A favorite of visitors is a trip to Mzima Springs, crystal-clear ponds filled by run-off from the snowy slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro in which hippo can be seen from a submerged chamber.
