Lewa Safari Camp

Lewa Safari Camp

A groundbreaking model of wildlife conservancy, Lewa Safari Camp is based within the 65,000 acre reserve of the Lewa Wilderness Trust. Working hard to keep migration lines open while at the same time protecting the varied species, Lewa has been the driving force in in Kenya’s strong initiatives to protect and conserve wildlife, particularly the black and white rhino populations.

Twelve luxury safari tents in soothing neutral tones provide a comfortable place to unwind after an exciting day of game drives. Each private tent features a thatched roof, veranda, and full en-suite bathroom; an extra bed can be added to accommodate the needs of a family. The central camp areas provide incredible viewing opportunities of Mt. Kenya and the surrounding animals in their natural habitat. Beautiful gardens, sunny veranda, swimming pool, cozy lounge, and dining room combine to provide the perfect experience. Gourmet, chef-prepared meals utilize ingredients from local organic farms resulting in delectable, fresh cuisine.

Lewa Wildlife Conservancy gained worldwide recognition through the National Geographic program “Game Ranger Diaries.” Today, guides are well-educated regarding the biology, geology, and history of the area and undertake daily patrols around the reserve to monitor and protect the wildlife. In addition to holding 10% of Kenya’s black rhino population and 15% of its white rhino population, Lewa features the rest of Africa’s “big five” (lion, leopard, elephant and buffalo) as well as the endangered Grevy’s zebra, cheetah, giraffe, and many smaller species.

Safari activities include shared game drives in 4 x 4 Land Cruisers, guided bush walks, bush breakfasts, and sundowners. Other activities include swimming pool, horse-riding, camel trekking, visits to an archeological site, and educational talks on the history and day-to-day operation of the conservancy. In particular, the Museum of Kenya trains guides regarding archeological digs that have yielded many artifacts.

Guests can enjoy Lewa Safari Camp assured that the camp reinvests all of its tourism profits back into core programs that support animal conservation as well as local communities through education support, healthcare support, water projects, agricultural projects, and social development.
