Journeys with Insight

Sweeping views of magnificent Mount Kenya and the opportunity to sleep under the stars in a romantic one-of-a-kind “starbed” are just two of the unique experiences awaiting guests of Loisaba. Its 61,000 acres of private game reserve combines with Samburu tribal lands to form the Laikipia plateau. The Ewaso Nyiro River forms the southern boundary of Loisaba, which is located in the heart of the Laikipia plateau.

Loisaba is best known as a private ranch and game sanctuary, offering guests many luxury accommodation options. Loisaba Lodge features seven rooms, each with an en-suite bath and a view of Mt. Kenya from a private deck. Loisaba House features a breathtaking cliff-top infinity pool with incredible views. This exclusive private house offers one double and one twin en-suite bedroom, generous sitting and dining room, fully staffed kitchen, and large private garden. Most of its beautiful furniture has been carefully hand-crafted on site. Loisaba Cottage is a smaller private house with three double en-suite bedrooms and many luxurious amenities.

For guests who truly want to experience the night beauty of Africa, Loisaba’s signature “starbeds” satisfy to perfection. A starbed is a large, open, elevated platform with a specially designed bed for sleeping under the stars. A thatched roof is available for guests who would prefer it. Each platform consists of a bed with an en-suite bathroom. Guests enjoy eating and conversing in the shared dining and seating area with a fully staffed kitchen. Twenty minutes from Loisaba Lodge, Kiboko starbeds overlook a large waterhole, providing exclusive game viewing. Koija starbeds are about thirty minutes from the lodge and overlook the impressive Ewaso Nyiro River.

Day and night game drives, guided bush and bird walks, bush meals, and sundowners provide abundant opportunities for game viewing. The endangered African wild dogs, as well as Africa’s “big five,” make their homes in the area. Guests enjoy seeing rhino, elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, and many other animals in their protected, natural environment.

Other popular activities (some only seasonal) include horseback riding, camel safaris, four-wheeling, river rafting, fishing, tennis, helicopter excursions, cultural visits, croquet, boules, and spa.
