Mara Plains Camp

Mara Plains Camp

Experience personal service and exceptional game viewing at their finest at Mara Plains Camp, where the activities center on the preferences of guests rather than on a set camp schedule. Allowing only fourteen guests at a time, the intimate setting provides a high-quality, memorable safari experience.

Mara Plains Camp lies within the Olare Orok Conservancy along the Ntiakatek River and borders the Masai Mara Game Reserve in Kenya’s southwestern region. One of only three camps in the area, Mara Plains offers over 30,000 acres of adventure in the private Olare Orok Conservancy, which boasts the area’s lowest vehicle density and few tourists. The camp was built to be as environmentally friendly as possible, and no cement was used in the construction of the camp. Among many other conservation initiatives, Mara Plains continues to recycle and utilize solar power as its only form of producing electricity.

Seven luxury canvas rooms on raised decks include floor to ceiling net walls on three sides, marquis ceiling, dressing area, and en-suite bathroom. The private veranda features comfortable seating and panoramic views of the surrounding Ntiakatek River and savanna.

In partnership with professionally trained and knowledgeable Masai guides, Mara Plains Camp offers early morning, late afternoon, and evening game drives. Specially designed Toyota Land Cruisers serve as safari vehicles and are the only completely open game drive vehicles in the Masai Mara. Even the canvas roof can be removed to allow guests (and photographers!) to truly capture the incredible safari experience. Extraordinary wildlife viewing takes place during the seasonal migration of zebra and over a million wildebeest. Prime predators such as lion and hyena follow the herds. Mara Plains Camp is located directly on the migratory route of these magnificent herds, providing guests with a front row seat for the spectacle.

Other activities provide guests with a variety of adventurous options such as bush walks, cultural and village visits, bush breakfasts and lunches, sundowners, and hot air balloon rides.
