Ride Kenya

In over 1.4 million acres in Kenya’s Amboseli and Chyulu Hills National Parks, abundant wildlife provides unparalleled viewing opportunities for guests of Ride Kenya, one of Africa’s premier mobile horse safari operations. In the beginning, Patrick Stanton and Nicola Young had a vision for combining their love of horses with an African bush experience. After partnering with world-renowned Ol Donyo Lodge owner and conservationist Richard Bonham, the couple began making their dream a reality. They have since assembled over twenty-five well-schooled horses, and they offer several ways for guests of any riding ability to enjoy the unique adventure of a horseback safari.

The best option for novice riders and families is to add on a half-day or full-day Ride Kenya mobile horse safari to a stay at the memorable Ol Donyo Lodge.

Intermediate to advanced riders have the option of securing a multi-day luxury horse safari. Guests can expect to spend 4-7 hours in the saddle each day, covering anywhere from 15-30 miles per day, depending on wildlife sightings and variation in terrain. Two different multi-day, overnight itineraries are available for riders exhibiting good fitness level, riding ability, and a spirit of adventure.

The Chyulu Ride has been a signature ride since Ride Kenya’s inception. It is somewhat spread out but offers a vast array of wildlife, terrain, and scenery. The Amboseli Ride is challenging even for the advanced rider due to longer days and riding at a faster pace. However, guests are rewarded with thrilling sights of elephant, buffalo, lion, hyena, and more as they travel through Amboseli’s dry lakebeds and swampland. Riders should be comfortable at a canter, and opportunities abound for galloping and jumping.

Multi-day mobile horse safaris last anywhere from 2-7 days, and guests spend the night in a traditional mobile camp with many comforts of home. Luxury tents include en-suite bathrooms, and meals are prepared and enjoyed around an open fire. In addition to some of the best riding in the world, guests can take advantage of opportunities to ride in vehicles, go on night game drives, explore on foot, and photograph the immense diversity of wildlife.
