Kenya

Segera Retreat

PLAN MY TRIP

Nestled between majestic snow-capped Mount Kenya to the east and the Great Rift Valley to the west, Segera Retreat offers Zen luxury for a revitalizing and authentic adventure.

Six thatch and timber villas, each with unique furnishing and artwork and fueled by solar power sit on raised wooden decks. Five villas come with one bedroom, an en-suite bathroom, a private deck, an outside lounge, and a comfortable swing-bed. The family villa comprises one double and one twin room, each with an en-suite bathroom, and a shared lounge and deck area. The Segera House has a reception area, one double and one twin room each with an en suite bathroom, a shared lounge and kitchen, a raised outside deck area, a private sala, garden, and a plunge pool. Villa Segera has one bedroom that is connected by bridge to an observation lounge and deck area. It also offers a downstairs lounge area, a large pool, a bathroom with an outside shower, and a sunken hide.

Segera Ranch is located in the Laikipia Plateau, a conservancy area of 3,600 square miles and a major part of the Ewaso Ecosystem boasting the second highest wildlife density in Kenya. It’s also home to cheetah, herds of plains game, many reptile species, and over 150 bird species. Moreover, it is home to 7,000 elephants, and it supports important populations of endangered species including black rhino, Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Patas monkey, Lelwel’s Hartebeest, and African wild dog.

Daily game drives explore the free-roaming wildlife of the Laikipia Plateau in comfortable 4×4 vehicles led by expert guides. This is the best way to see the “Big 5”: lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant, and rhino. Guided nature walks explore the flora and fauna in more detail. The Center for the 4cs is a mix of natural history museum, art museum, and a comprehensive tour of holistic practices to sustain the Segera community and wildlife. Other activities include light aircraft or helicopter rides, sundowners and picnics, hides and lookout points, and cultural visits to the local community villages and schools.

The ranch exudes a truly “Out of Africa” feel with the profusion of botanical life in the sculpture garden, the exceptional African Art Collection, and the delicious home-grown cuisine either in Paddock House, the Stables, and pool bar area. Other amenities include an entrance pavilion with fireplace, a shop, an art gallery, a gym, a wellness center with a double spa treatment room, a mobile massage bed for private in-villa massages, a rasul tower with a steam bath, a salt-water swimming pool, and a wine tower with the owner’s private selection.
