Serena Mountain Lodge

Serena Mountain Lodge

This ark-like timbered hotel seems to float among the trees high on the slopes of Mount Kenya amid its ancient rainforest. Cool, clear mountain breezes, tranquil forests, and abundant wildlife make this a most attractive lodge to visit while in Kenya. The lodge features log-paneled walls, timber game-viewing decks, wooden stairs, and cabin-styled rooms.

A salt lick and waterhole situated just below the lodge allow for spectacular game viewing. Open-air viewing decks overlook the waterhole, allowing you to observe the buffalo and elephant that come to drink, wash, play, and spar in the water. And, should you want to get even closer, a hide at the water’s edge allows you to be only meters away from the action.

Dining is on a buffet basis. The window-encircled dining room offers spectacular views over the tree canopy. Breakfast and lunch are typical of a hotel of this quality serving both local and international cuisine. Dinner offers a salad buffet, soup, entrée, pudding, cheese, and tea or coffee, with vegetarian options also available.

Activities at the lodge include guided forest walks, trout fishing in the clear mountain streams, trips to the high moorlands of the mountain, even five-day luxury climbs of the mountain, to say nothing of the game-watching at the waterhole. After a long day of adventure, relax with a beauty treatment, manicure, or pedicure at the spa or with some “retail therapy” at the extensively stocked Africana Gift Shop. Activities include guided walks through the forest.

The lodge is composed of 42 cabin-styled en-suite rooms, each with a private balcony that overlooks the water hole and/or the forest canopy. The décor is Kikuyu inspired and is both luxurious and warm.
