The Sanctuary at Ol Lentille

The Sanctuary at Ol Lentille

Ol Lentille lies nestled in a rugged escarpment overlooking Kenya’s untamed wilderness. Providing an exceptional luxury travel experience, the Sanctuary at Ol Lentille and the surrounding private Ol Lentille Conservancy encompass 20,000 heavily wooded acres of acacia and African olive trees.

An impressive library, complete with a rotunda and soaring stained glass dome, is the “club” room and the hub of activity at Ol Lentille. The library is a welcoming place for guests to read, write, relax, and converse with other guests and hosts Gill and John Elias. In the evening, the viewing deck atop the library entertains guests with its bar, open fire, and GPS-controlled telescope for stargazing. Other deluxe amenities include infinity pool, spa, and chef-prepared meals.

Four private, full-service, fully staffed houses offer amenities unseen in most regions of Africa. The three-bedroom Chief’s House features a sitting room, dining room, kitchen, open fire, and plunge pool. The Sultan’s House, Colonel’s House, and Eyrie House all provide luxurious amenities and fresh, modern, natural décor.

While many private conservancies make provision for ranch owners and native peoples to graze cattle, this practice often leads to increased pressure on fragile grazing lands and the eventual flight of wildlife. Ol Lentille’s innovative approach carefully balances conservation, economic development, and community development so that each area flourishes. Its initiatives involve private investors, conservation organizations, and the neighboring Maasai and Samburu communities, and one outstanding outcome is that the Laikipia district, in which Ol Lentille is located, is the only district in Kenya where overall wildlife numbers are increasing.

Now home to more endangered species than any other place in East Africa, Ol Lentille Conservancy is a place for guests to explore, tracking the wild African dog, greater kudu, leopard, striped hyena, spotted hyena, and klipspringer. Enjoying these incredible creatures in their natural habitat is an experience of a lifetime.

Knowledgeable and experienced guides lead traditional game drives in 4 x 4 vehicles during the day and night. Walking safaris, camel treks, mountain and quad biking, horseback riding, kayaking, and river rafting are a few more activities that provide opportunity for impressive wildlife viewing. Other activities offered at Ol Lentille are bush picnics, sundowners, bush dinners, star walks, bocce, croquet, visits to other parks, and trips to the local craft village.
