Heuglin's Lodge

Nestled in Lilongwe’s charming residential suburbs, Heuglin’s Lodge is named for Heuglin’s robin, a species often sighted in the lodge’s lush garden. For easy access to Malawi’s capital city, this safe and relaxing guesthouse is the ideal choice. Whether you are stopping for a night before or after a safari or as a destination in itself, the area has much to offer guests.

Heuglin’s Lodge is a privately managed guesthouse with tastefully furnished common areas including a comfortable lounge, wildlife library, “help-yourself” bar, attractive gardens, and generously sized swimming pool. Two on-site chefs supply delicious meals daily, and chauffeured transport is available for airport transfers or trips around town.

Eight spacious guestrooms provide everything you need for a relaxing stay. Most have en-suite baths, and all are brightly furnished with both classic and hand-crafted pieces.

Lilongwe’s city center is the most modern and developed area of Lilongwe. Numerous banks, corporate offices, and government headquarters anchor activities of this area. In contrast, the streets and walled market of Old Town offer sights of a more traditional era in the country’s history. Spend an afternoon sampling the delicacies of local cafes and browsing the market filled with hand-crafted goods. Another highlight is the Lilongwe Nature Sanctuary which includes an animal rescue and education facility.

A recent guest highly recommends the lodge: “Heuglin was the start and finish of a three-week Malawi/Zambia safari, and this resthouse was such a pleasant welcome and introduction to Africa hospitality. . . . It offered the warmest of welcomes and time to get our feet on the ground before we headed out on our holiday. The accommodation was excellent and food was 5-star.”
