Damaraland Camp

Damaraland Camp

Situated in the pristine Huab River Valley, Damaraland Camp is renowned as one of Namibia’s best camps, providing breathtaking views of the rugged Damaraland terrain from desert plains to ancient canyons to the soaring peaks of the Brandberg Mountains. The camp has won a host of tourism awards including the prestigious WTTC Tourism for Tomorrow Conservation award in 2005. In addition to environmentally friendly construction that combines traditional innovation with modern technology, the camp is wholly owned by the local community. This melting pot of ancient peoples imparts a distinctive enthusiasm and flavor.

Each of the camp’s ten thatched tents are built on raised platforms that extend out from the tent to create a large viewing deck. Built in fans and en-suite shower facilities maximize guest comfort. The spacious common area features a restaurant, bar, swimming pool, and open fire pit.

Due to the region’s prominent arid climate, large game viewing is not available year round as seasonal rains dictate the flow of the Huab River. However, camp activities do center on guided nature walks and game drives along the river in search of elephant, gemsbok, kudu, and springbok as well as the more rare lion, cheetah, and black rhino. Often these drives have as their destination the prehistoric rock drawings of the land’s ancient human inhabitants, including the famous etchings at Twyfelfontein.
