Kiripotib Guest Farm

Kiripotib Guest Farm

Kiripotib Guest Farm is actually a working farm, though it is also undeniably stylish. It has excellent amenities and décor as well as a world-class arts and craft studio. Kiripotib is about 100 miles southeast of Namibia’s capital city of Windhoek. It finds itself in delightful Namibian savanna, surrounded by tall Camelthorn trees and watched over by the Auas and Bismarck mountain ranges. The name Bismarck reminds guests of Namibia’s colonial past; the German influence is still felt in the Namibian language, architecture, and food.

Accommodation at Kiripotib is in fifteen chalets, guest rooms, and luxury tents. Each unit has comfortable twin beds with luxury linen, and the majority of the en-suite rooms have solar water heating. The chalets and luxury tents are nestled in the beautiful bushveld, while the guest rooms are situated around the pool and near the lapa. All the rooms are beautifully decorated with ethnic touches and the earthy colors of Namibia.

The dining here is accurately described as “farm-to-table.” Most of the meals are prepared using fresh, organic vegetables, herbs, and fruit from the farm gardens. This is also a working sheep and cattle farm, producing free-range meat of highest quality. And the farm’s Jersey cows provide much of the dairy products enjoyed by guests.

Kiripotib is owned and run by Hans von Hase and his wife, Claudia. Hans developed a successful sheep farm and cattle ranch, no mean feat given that the rainfall is erratic. Claudia is responsible for creating the African Kirikara Art studio that includes carpet-weaving, spinning, and jewelry design. The farm’s own gallery has a collection of beautiful and carefully sourced African artifacts, carpets, and jewelry. Guests can tour the studio and workshop, see the artists at work, and discuss ideas and designs with them. And, of course, it is possible to purchase or commission your own carpet or jewelry!

The farm has many activities to choose from, and just driving through the farm’s game camp is great. Wildlife in this region includes zebra, springbok, kudu, oryx, hartebeest, warthog, blesbok, aardvark, porcupine, and many others. Walks across the property are not to be under-appreciated, visiting the state-of-the-art private observatory is a must, and hiking in the Karubeams Mountain is excellent. The child in you will beg to attend a trip to the Aloe forest, not on shanks pony, but on the back of a traditional Namibian donkey cart!

Photographiles (is there such a word?) will constantly be reaching for their cameras to snap the breathtaking scenery and unique wildlife.
