Breathtaking views of the Naukluft Mountains, petrified dune ridges, red dunes of Sossusvlei, and unique dolomite formations are only the beginning of what awaits you at the luxurious Moon Mountain Lodge. Located in the captivating Sossusvlei area of Namibia and only a short drive from the village of Solitaire, Moon Mountain Lodge is a modern-day desert oasis. Built in 2009 with a focus on combining elegant luxury with environmental sensitivity, the lodge allows guests to be confident that their stay is as socially responsible as it is spectacular.

Twenty tented rooms accommodate a variety of guests. Eleven luxury rooms and two executive rooms boast their own private splash pool, mini-bar, complimentary bottle of wine, and en-suite bathroom. The executive suites also include a bathtub, bidet, robe, and slippers. And expansive decks afford enjoy spectacular views from every room. Four rooms with twin beds are ideal for children or guides, and every room offers fine linens and locally-crafted dark pinewood furniture.

The main lodge area beckons with its expansive dining and lounge, which includes the fully licensed Cosmos Bar. Guests enjoy panoramic views from the observation deck, and chefs create delectable meals at the lodge’s Nebula Restaurant Fresh fruits and vegetables are grown in an on-site garden. A smoking and games room with internet connection and small cinema featuring flat screen TV, surround sound, DVD player, and DSTV complete the lodge amenities. The lodge is also ideal for small conferences.

Of course, the main attraction in the area is the sand dunes of Sossusvlei. During the short trip to Sossusvlei, guests can observe some of the world’s highest sand dunes, petrified dunes, and the Sesriem Canyon. Dune 45 is particularly accessible, and many guests attempt to climb it and are rewarded with incredible views from its peak. Continuing in a 4x4 vehicle, guests traverse even more difficult terrain before arriving at the Dead Vlei parking area. From there, it is about a one-mile walk over the dunes to reach Dead Vlei, said to be one of the most magical places in the world. Dead Vlei is a dry lake surrounded by the incredible reddish sand dunes of Sossusvlei. The combination of azure sky, orange-red dunes, white clay pan, and petrified trees makes for a striking finish to an exciting excursion.

For the adventurous guest, a guided excursion on a quad-bike (four-wheeler) is a must. Hot air ballooning trips and nature drives offer uniquely exciting ways to experience the beauty of the Namib Desert. Le Mirage Desert Lodge also houses the Mystique Spa, a wellness center specializing in massages, pedicures, manicures, aroma massages, and de-stress treatments.
