Wolwedans Private Camp

Wolwedans Private Camp

Wolwedans Private Camp is in the quiet seclusion of an idyllic valley in the NamibRand Nature Reserve in southern Namibia. Catering for a maximum of four guests traveling together between the middle of March and the middle of December, it is the perfect getaway for honeymooners or those who will not compromise on privacy and solitude. The idea of the Private Camp is to get away for a day or two, not doing much except relaxing and spending quality time with a partner. Guided activities are not part of the package, and the emphasis is on pure relaxation.

Be content to page through the books in the library, take walks in the surrounding plains, rest, play card games, and prepare your own meals as you wish and when you wish (all food and beverages are supplied).

The Private Camp suite comprises two spacious bedrooms with en-suite bathroom, a veranda and lounge, combining a study, dining area, and a fully equipped open plan kitchen. As with the other Wolwedans Camps, the buildings are a combination of timber and canvas, and the carefully selected furnishings are reminiscent of African romance.

The minimum stay is two nights, and all activities offered at the Wolwedans Camps are available, including desert walks with guides introducing you to uniquely adapted desert fauna and flora, guided 4x4 drives on morning or afternoon excursions, as well as full-day safaris and picnics out in nature. There are also half-day excursions and sundowner trips to the dunes. As the reserve is enormous, scenic flights are extremely popular as one is able to see so much more in a short period of time. Hot-air ballooning trips in this pristine area offers vistas across the Diamond Coast and Sossusvlei. A champagne breakfast at the end of the trip brings one back to earth gently.

However, if guests do not want to join the activities offered at the other camps, private drives and walks are available if booked in advance and will be charged accordingly.

Covering an area of some 200,000 hectares (2,000,000,000 square meters) close to Sossusvlei, the NamibRand Reserve is bordered by the Naukluft Park in the west and the impressive Nubib Mountain range in the east. The special attraction of the reserve is the diversity of desert landscapes. Virtually all facets of the Namib are represented here. Mountains plunging down into endless grassy plains interspersed by red vegetated dunes create a living tapestry of ever-changing colors and shapes that provide a visual feast for artists and photographers.

The park is governed by a strict code of ethics, and the number of guests is restricted so that, in theory, every bed must be surrounded by 1,000 hectares of nature. In layman's terms, this is the equivalent of 10,000,000 square meters of wilderness per guest. No overcrowding here!
