River Crossing

River Crossing

River Crossing is equal parts farm, small hotel, conference venue, and lodge. While it is close to Namibia’s capital city of Windhoek, River Crossing feels remote as it is situated on a deliciously undeveloped 16,000-acre game reserve in the foothills of the Auas Mountains.

Architecturally inspired by the typical German farmhouse of the region, River Crossing has a number of touches such as corrugated iron roofs and wide balconies decorated with pots of geraniums that pay nostalgic homage to a different time and people. Large double doors allow entry to the main lodge area and its bar that overlooks the swimming pool. A spacious dining room leads out onto a deck that offers spectacular views of Windhoek and the surrounding mountains. In addition to a conference venue which can accommodate over sixty people, the comfortable lounge with leather sofas and well-considered décor completes the main rooms. For those who wish to be pampered just a little, a small wellness center will look after your every need.

Sophisticated, stylish, up-to-the-minute décor, excellent meals, and a variety of possible activities make River Crossing a premiere destination. Despite its proximity to Windhoek, the lodge is in the heart of the bush and is surrounded by the totality of Namibian wildlife.

River Crossing has twenty guest chalets of which fifteen have twin beds and five have double beds. All have en- suite bathrooms with showers, toilets, and basins. All the rooms have feather duvets and cotton covers. Six chalets offer views over Windhoek, and the remaining fourteen face east, looking onto the sunrise over the Moltkeblick Mountains.

Nineteen prime wildlife species are found here, including a few that are not endemic to the area such as roan, sable, giraffe, and wildebeest, while leopard and cheetah are a little more elusive but are seen from time to time. But people come from miles around not just in pursuit of the animals. This is beautiful countryside. The combination of hills and valleys, mountain tops and ravines, tall trees, grass, and shrubs are worth taking time to experience.

River Crossing also offers horseback expeditions and guided or self-guided walks, both of which are unique ways of encountering the wildlife and landscape.
