Serra Cafema

Serra Cafema

Located in Namibia’s extreme northwest, Serra Cafema Camp takes advantage of a unique combination of environments. Cutting a swath of green through the endless sand dunes of the Namib Desert is the Kunene River. With the Serra Cafema mountains to the north and only desert to the south and east, the waterway is an oasis in this arid world and is understandably a hotbed of wildlife.

Just above the river rapids in Hartmann’s Valley, the camp is nestled in the shade of the Albia trees right on the banks of the river. Its eight Meru-style resident tents and thatched chalets are the perfect haven of comfort after long hot days exploring the surrounding terrain. The intimate and luxurious honeymoon chalet must be booked well in advance due to its popularity.

Activities at Serra Cafema center on exploring the contrasting topography. Within the same day, one can cruise on the river observing the behavior of crocodiles and then traverse the sand dunes on guided quad bike excursions. A visit to the local Himba settlement is also a must, as the Himba are one of the last truly nomadic peoples in Africa.
