Sossusvlei Wilderness Camp

Sossusvlei Wilderness Camp

Soaring up to 1,000 feet above the surrounding clay pan, the enormous red-orange sand dunes of Sossusvlei create an almost surreal landscape. Astonishingly, with the heaviest rains the arid pan is transformed into a spectacular turquoise lake that helps to create the temporary marshes that give the vlei its name. Directly adjacent this unique region of Namibia’s Namib-Naukluft National Park lies Sossusvlei Wilderness Camp. Build into the side of a mountain, the camp provides stunning views of the desert terrain and surrounding Naukluft Mountains.

Sossusvlei Wilderness Camp offers nine elegantly appointed resident units, each of which has a private plunge pool, en-suite bathroom facilities, and sweeping vistas of the landscape. The camp also offers a stargazing platform complete with a powerful telescope.

An early morning safari to the Sossusvlei dunes is the camp’s most popular activity. Daily and nightly game drives (and walks) track the region’s desert-adapted wildlife, highlighted by nocturnal species including aardwolf, cape and bat-eared fox, and jackal. However, the camp’s most unique and coveted safari is via hot air balloon (at an extra cost, of course).

As a consequence of its vivid colors and fascinating landscape, Sossusvlei is one of the most photographed places in Sub-Saharan Africa.
