The guest accommodation at Akademie Street is in three cottages and three suites. The Cape Dutch-style main house is known as “Twyfeling” and houses two suites. Suite A leads out to the garden and pool, whereas suite B has a private conservatory room with views to the mountain and over the rill. Both suites are non-smoking, air-conditioned, and very luxurious. They feature king-size beds (twin beds may be specified when making reservations) and en-suite bathrooms.

Upstairs in an adjacent building is private and spacious Uitsig Suite. French doors open to a sunny balcony offering lovely views of the mountains. Oortuiging Cottage was built in the 1860s and has two en-suite bedrooms, a lounge, a kitchen, and a dining room. Vreugde is a garden suite that sleeps two in an extra-length king size bed. This cottage has a separate bath and shower, a small kitchenette, and French doors that open onto a wide veranda with a beautiful garden and small pool.

Gelatenheid is a very spacious, double-story cottage with a wide balcony and superb mountain views over the Franschhoek Winelands. A loft incorporates the bed/dressing/sitting room. The suite features an extra-length king size bed (or twin extra length beds on prior notice), a TV, and an en-suite bathroom. The ground floor of Gelatenheid has a lounge and kitchenette with French doors leading out onto a veranda.

The city of Franschhoek is superbly situated in the Cape Winelands, near both Stellenbosch and Paarl. The town has much to offer visitors. Gift shops, galleries, antique shops, wine-tasting at the many wineries, fly-fishing, golf at one of the excellent courses in the area, and horseback riding are just some of the activities on offer.
