Auberge Chanteclair

A pristine guesthouse in one of South Africa’s oldest settlements, Auberge Chanteclair is an attractively restored farmhouse nestled in the charming Franschhoek Valley. Restful orchards, quaint gardens, majestic mountains, and the working winery all add to the allure of a stay at Auberge Chanteclair. Only fifty miles from Cape Town’s city center, the town of Franschhoek is fondly referred to as the gourmet capital of South Africa, and a number of fine dining establishments serve their world-famous cuisine to guests of Auberge Chanteclair.

The four luxury rooms in the main house are named for the tree nearest them in the adjacent garden: Jacaranda, Cork Oak, Prunus, and Syringa. French doors in some rooms open directly onto the pool patio, and all rooms offer great views of the orchard, vineyard, or mountains. Other room amenities include king-sized bed, en-suite bathroom, heated towel rail, mini-bar, tea/coffee station, and flat screen TV.

Two suites separated from the main building offer additional privacy and comfort. The Studio has a light, airy feel provided by its peak-roofed room, beams, reed ceiling, and broad views of the mountains. A separate seating area, log-burning fire, en-suite bathroom with separate shower, queen-sized bed, and private veranda make the Studio a special retreat. Vine Cottage’s delightful veranda boasts cascading vines and panoramic views. Other charming features include separate lounge, queen-sized bed, log-burning fire, under-floor heating, and small dining area.

Complimentary drinks and a hospitable staff welcome guests. A breakfast terrace, landscaped garden with swimming pool, small lake, orchard, vineyard, and young olive grove are all great places to seek tranquility and relaxation in a natural setting. High-quality wines are produced in the small vineyard under the Chanteclair label and include Cabernet Sauvignon, Chenin Blanc, and pure Malbec. Guests are welcome to explore the winery and vineyards and learn about the wine-making process at Auberge Chanteclair.

One guest remarked, “From a warm welcome to excellent breakfasts and service, L'Auberge Chanteclair was a wonderful stop-over. Franschhoek is probably the nicest place we stayed during our trip to the Western Cape. Bruce and Linda proved perfect hosts, giving us excellent recommendations for restaurants in Franschhoek or making forward bookings for us. The view from the stoep while enjoying a sundowner was brilliant, as was the view from the patio at breakfast over the vineyard. We have already recommended L'Auberge Chanteclair to our travel agent and also to three friends; we shall be aiming to return here as soon as possible.”
