Bo La Motte

Bo La Motte

One of the original Huguenot wine farms, Bo La Motte Farm was settled in 1672 has returned to its roots by planting Rhone varietal vines, marketing its wine under the Four Paws label. Today, in addition to producing wine, it offers idyllic, self-catering cottages. Nestled at the foot of Middagkrans Mountain, Bo La Motte is a mere ten-minute walk from the picturesque village of Franschhoek, which is world-renowned as the gourmet capital of South Africa because of its master chefs and exclusive fine dining restaurants.

With names such as Oak Cottage, Pear Tree Cottage, and Milkwood Cottage, Bo La Motte’s five cottages each feature a unique setting overlooking dams or beneath lush vines. A complete kitchen allows for self-catering, and the spacious lounge includes a comfortable sofa, TV, DVD player, and open fireplace. The cottages can easily accommodate an additional child’s bed or baby’s cot. An en-suite bathroom with shower as well as a private braai (barbeque) facility services each cottage. The recently renovated Orchard Cottage sleeps six, and guests enjoy its quiet garden-like location in the farm’s plum orchard.

Other amenities offered at Bo LaMotte include swimming pool, jungle gym, and trout/fly-fishing. Laundry and babysitting services are available upon request.

The farm’s owners have spent hundreds of hours painstakingly restoring grape farming to Bo La Motte. In addition to the existing block of Cabernet Sauvignon, a number of new grape varieties have been planted including Shiraz, Mouvedre, Grenache, and Viognier. In 2006, the first grapes were harvested, and the resulting boutique vintages have met with great success. The winery is managed by acclaimed winemaker Gerda Willers.

Bo La Motte is an exceptional home base for guests wishing to explore the delights of South Africa’s Western Cape, where breathtaking scenery and picturesque villages are sure to excite any traveler. The Franschhoek Valley is known for its outdoor activities from horseback riding to paragliding to mountain biking. Relaxing alternatives include wine-tasting and enjoying treatments at one of the local health spas.
