Boulders Lodge

Boulders Lodge

Upon discovery of a large boulder where the wine cellar was to be built, the early visionaries of this lodge decided to name it “Boulders.” Instead of removing the large rock, they made the decision to build the wine cellar around it. This act demonstrates the care given to preserve the natural environment as much as possible and to give guests an authentically African experience.

A destination highly recognized for its diverse yet concentrated wildlife population, Boulders Lodge in the protected Sabi Sand Reserve is situated in a remote corner of the lowveld adjoining Kruger National Park. One of the founding lodges in the area, its 44,000 acres of private land near the Sand River offers guests opportunities to enjoy many local species—from the big cats common in the area to delicate wildfowl. The lodge flows around the natural elements of the land to reveal panoramic views of the Sand River. Unique wooden furniture, straw baskets, neutral shades, and textured fabrics enhance the organic feel of the main lodge.

Twelve luxurious suites beckon guests to relax but also to absorb their surroundings through each suite’s wall of glass. Indoor and outdoor spaces unite with the private heated plunge pool, outside shower, and game-viewing deck. The rustic elegance continues with an en suite bathroom and shower, large living area, mini-bar and fridge, air-conditioning, and double-sided fireplace. Two of the suites are double family suites, and children are welcome.

This part of Africa boasts frequent sightings of the “Big Five”: lion, leopard, rhinoceros, elephant, and buffalo. Serene ponds set alongside the thatched lounge area and the main lodge viewing deck are ideal places to witness these grand creatures; however, to explore them in their natural habitat, visitors can take one of the twice-daily Land Rover safaris. Other opportunities abound for recreation and relaxation such as guided safari walks, community tours into neighboring villages, a spa complete with a fully equipped gym, a premier wine boutique, and a well-stocked library.

Boulders seeks to buy from local suppliers and is dedicated to the development of sustainable communities, local businesses, and suppliers.
