Cheetah Plains

Cheetah Plains

Melding the ethnic influences of the raw South African bushveld with contemporary amenities and stellar hospitality, Cheetah Plains is a lodge that provides an unforgettable and authentic safari experience. In a “big five” area of the Sabi Sand, guests relish sightings of lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino as well as cheetah.

Two luxury thatched chalets boast en-suite bathroom, bathtub, outdoor shower, air conditioning, double or single beds, romantically draped mosquito netting, and veranda overlooking the gardens. Six standard chalets are similar with the exception of the bathroom, which includes an indoor shower rather than a bathtub.

Memorable meals at Cheetah Plains feature hearty South African favorites with fresh ingredients, home-baked bread, and local produce. Most meals are enjoyed outdoors, whether on the veranda, overlooking the water, in the bushveld, under the stars, or in the boma.

Led by professional guides, twice-daily game drives offer multiple opportunities to view the area’s vast concentrations of wildlife. Evening game drives usually allow sightings of predators beginning their nightly hunt, and guests enjoy a relaxing sundowner while taking in the African sunset. Morning game drives feature a variety of wildlife, including the “big five” as well as antelope, giraffe, hyena, zebra, and many bird species. Cheetah Plains also offers specialized safari experiences, such as birding safaris and photographic safaris in specially designed vehicles.

Rejuvenating therapeutic treatments, such as a full-body massage, are provided by a qualified masseuse, and guests emerge feeling relaxed and invigorated. The swimming pool offers views into the bushveld while enjoying a refreshing dip. A four-hour excursion to the Manyeleti communities should also be on the “must-do” list of any visitor to the lodge. Cheetah Plains is committed to positively investing in its local communities of Utah and Dixie, and villagers are glad to share the exuberance and enthusiasm of their rural way of life with guests.
