Chitwa Chitwa

Described by one guest as a place of “perfect exclusivity and privacy” and by another as a destination characterized by the staff’s “hospitality and warmth,” Chitwa Chitwa is a stunning lodge for the discerning traveler. In fact, the World Luxury Hotels Awards presented the Best Luxury Game Lodge Award to Chitwa Chitwa in 2011.

The lodge originated as a family retreat and gained its distinctive name from the aging giraffe affectionately adopted by the Brink family. The exceptional retreat eventually transitioned to a luxury game lodge combining classic charm with African chic, becoming one of the best examples of eco-tourism in South Africa’s Sabi Sand Game Reserve.

Lodge suites combine the extravagant luxury of a personal home with environmental harmony. The spacious thatched roofs meld seamlessly into the surrounding bush, becoming part of the natural landscape. Outdoors and indoors merge, sharing natural colors, textures, and breathtaking panoramas. Notable features include handcrafted wooden furniture, spacious, high-ceilinged suites, indoor and outdoor showers and baths, romantically draped beds, fireplaces, and original artwork by Maria Brink.

The focal point of any visit to Chitwa Chitwa is the safari experience. Due to the Sabi Sand’s impressive concentrations of wildlife, guests can expect to see many of Africa’s “big five”: lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino, and elephant. Expert guides and trackers lead expeditions into the bush to experience these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat.

Hunting in the area has been abolished for decades, so these incredible animals, as well as cheetah, giraffe, hippo, zebra, and antelope, roam without fear of human interruption. The guides further enhance the experience with detailed knowledge of the surrounding topography, botany, and zoology.

For guests desiring a more relaxed viewing experience, Chitwa Chitwa provides incredible opportunities to view wildlife from the main lounge, dining areas, rim-flow swimming pool, and sunset deck. The luxury game lodge is adjacent to the largest lake on the Sabi Sand Reserve, providing excellent sightings of the many creatures who daily visit the waterhole. Guests can relax in overwhelming tranquility, shaded by mature knobthorn trees and absorb the sights, sounds, and scents of Africa.
