Dennehof Guest House

Dennehof Guest House

The oldest surviving building in the town of Prince Albert, Dennehof Karoo Guest House began as a quaint two-room farmhouse, eventually expanding to include a barn, dairy, wagon shed, forge, and windmill as well as several additional outbuildings. Each building houses a unique room or suite, with décor that gives a hint of its original intent. Surrounding gardens give way to spectacular views of South Africa’s Kweekvallei region, enhancing feeling of tranquility and relaxation.

Simple grandeur characterizes the Patio Room, with its Victorian feel, huge double bed, and en-suite bathroom with claw-foot tub. A large fireplace is the centerpiece of the Cottage, where two twin beds, a small kitchen, spacious bathroom, lounge, and views of Swartberg Mountain make a comfortable home away from home. The Cottage also connects to the Dairy (another guest room), which makes the rooms an ideal choice for families. The Dairy offers high reed ceilings, poplar wood beams, two twin beds, en-suite bathroom, shower, and private patio.

Two exceptional suites are especially popular for honeymooners. On the secluded outdoor spa bath of the Wagon Shed, guests enjoy relaxing and stargazing. This romantic room also features a double bed, en-suite bathroom, small kitchenette, lounge, and television. The other honeymoon suite, the Windmill Suite, provides guests with an intimate in-room spa bath, double bed, en-suite bathroom, and small kitchenette.

The Forge and the Windmill Room also offer guests a simple but relaxing retreat at day’s end.

Guests are encouraged to relish a delicious breakfast on the deck overlooking the breathtaking valley, complete with Guernsey cows and Angora goats in the nearby pastures. The on-site restaurant serves up sumptuous dinners including fine Karoo lamb, aged cheeses from local dairies, and fruits and vegetables from local orchards and farms.

Guests enjoy exploring the town of Prince Albert, famous for having thirteen buildings listed as national monuments. The Villa Kruger Art House and Sculpture Garden are destinations not to be missed, and the surrounding area is a haven for botanists worldwide because of its endemic veld plants. Other popular excursions include birding, hiking, cycling, and stargazing.
