Ebony Lodge

Ebony Lodge

A destination globally recognized for its diverse yet concentrated wildlife population, Ebony Lodge in the Sabi Sand Reserve is situated in a remote corner of the lowveld adjoining Kruger National Park. The established colonial lodge on 44,000 acres of private land near the Sand River projects the feel of a large family home, cozy and comfortable yet rich and elegant. African throws, Egyptian linen in deep, jewel tones, and antiques combine with modern luxuries to produce a relaxing ambiance.

The main lodge’s lounge and timber deck dining areas overlook the Sand River, affording opportunity to view wildlife at nearly any time of day and providing the feel of an “armchair safari.” A traditional open boma, bar area, gymnasium, health spa, well-stocked library, and wine cellar add a variety of relaxing activities to the safari experience.

Each individual thatched suite features an expansive wooden viewing deck, outside shower, and private pool overlooking the Sand River. Inside the suite are further opulent amenities: en suite bathroom and shower, double-sided fireplace, mini bar and fridge, mini safe, air-conditioning, and private seating area. The twelve available suites contain twenty-four beds, and two of the suites are double family suites.

Safaris leave at both dawn and in the late afternoon, and professional guides and trackers conduct all game drives in Land Rovers. A maximum of six guests is allowed per vehicle; however, private Land Rovers are available if reserved well in advance. Big cats roam in abundance, captivating guests with sensational predator interaction, especially after dark. Sabi Sand is “Big Five” country, so guests are constantly on the lookout for the elephant, leopard, lion, rhinoceros, and buffalo that naturally inhabit the region.

In addition to the more traditional game drives, adventurers can experience exciting game walks, spot-lit night safaris, mountain biking, community tours into neighboring villages, and shopping at the boutique and gallery for African artifacts and curios. These all serve to round out a memorable stay at Ebony Lodge.
