Garonga Safari Camp

Garonga Safari Camp

Just west of Kruger National Park in the greater Makalali Conservancy is exclusive Garonga Safari Camp. There are many camps with astounding luxury and outstanding safari activities, but Garonga achieves something different. It is certainly luxurious and has fantastic activities. But Garonga has an ethos at its very core that it extends to all it does. The Garonga experience is quiet, unhurried, and exclusive. Their mission is to have you deeply fed and revitalized while here.

Guests are accommodated in twelve luxurious villas. They have canvas roofs, packed-earth walls, and are built on stilts. Exquisite crisp linens, beds draped with mosquito net, blond wooden fittings, and broad decks with hammocks and glorious views all combine to create an excellent experience. Each villa has an en-suite bathroom with both indoor and outdoor showers.

Activities at Garonga center around daily game drives. This private 90-square mile reserve has four of the “big 5” with only buffalo missing. It is also home to kudu, waterbuck, and many smaller creatures too. Bush walks led by trained guides are perhaps the best way to get close to the bush and its animals. While game drives cover greater area, bush walks are more intimate and allow you to encounter more than just the big animals.

The camp’s sleep-out (and accompanying “bush bath”) are about twenty minutes from the camp. Not for the faint-hearted, you will be left completely alone on a deck in the bush with food, drinks, and a radio. If the luxurious comfort of your room is not enough to offset the rigors of your daily activities, a massage or therapy in the sala may be just the ticket.
