Lalibela Tree Tops

Lalibela Tree Tops

With abundant free-roaming wildlife and no public road running through the reserve, Lalibela Big Five Game Reserve offers an authentic African safari experience. Its nearly 20,000 acres are home to Africa’s legendary “big five” as well as a number of smaller but no less spectacular species. Spanning five diverse ecosystems in the Port Elizabeth area of South Africa’s Eastern Cape, Lalibela promises thrilling wildlife sightings in some of South Africa’s most breathtaking landscapes.

Situated within the reserve is Tree Tops Safari Lodge, a unique tented camp perched on thatched platforms. Five luxury safari tents are built at “tree-top” level to ensure panoramic views of the spectacular valley and small waterhole below. Raised walkways give guests the feeling of walking among the treetops. Each elegant canvas tent features air-conditioning, huge window areas, and private veranda.

In the main lodge area, guests enjoy relaxing in the spacious lounge, dining on the viewing decks, unwinding in the shaded gazebo, and sunbathing around the swimming pool. During construction, the utmost care was taken to minimize human impact on the natural surroundings, and that same conservation mindset continues today.

An ambience of “relaxed informality” pervades Lalibela, from décor and hospitality to exceptional cuisine. Emphasizing local specialties, meals at Lalibela are unforgettable, from brunch after an exciting morning game drive to elegant safari cuisine dinners.

Professional guides lead early morning and sunset game drives, providing exceptional wildlife viewing opportunities. While lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo, and leopard freely roam the area, other predators such as cheetah, hyena, jackal, and lynx also make the area home. These vast plains are inhabited by other wildlife including zebra, giraffe, warthog, impala, wildebeest, blesbuck, and many other antelope species. Enchanting sunset drives introduce guests to a variety of nocturnal creatures like the elusive bat-eared fox, aardvark, black-backed jackal, aardwolf, and spring hare.
