La Petite Dauphine

La Petite Dauphine

Escape to a simpler era at La Petite Dauphine, a historical working fruit and wine farm that offers convenient and luxurious accommodations. Just over a mile from Franschhoek, a town fondly known as “The Gourmet Capital of South Africa,” La Petite Dauphine is a tranquil country house with bountiful fruit trees and vineyards.

With captivating views over the Cape Winelands, each of the guest farm’s nine suites offers impeccable design and elegant amenities. From underfloor heating and full climate control to soft bathrobes and fine linens, only the best awaits guests of La Petite Dauphine Guest Farm. Opulent one and two-bedroom suites offer tasteful décor, and two exclusive villa suites have the ultimate in luxury, including a private plunge pool, spacious en-suite bathroom, and wood-burning fireplace.

Enjoy a sumptuous breakfast at Café BonBon where breakfast is served in a 200-year-old wine cellar. For breakfast and lunch, fresh seasonal produce and ingredients overtake the menu, and reservations are recommended. An extension of Café BonBon, the relaxed atmosphere of Veruskas Wine Bar is inspired by the sophisticated streets and rustic warmth of the Franschhoek Valley and features Haut Espoir Wines.

Walks, relaxing on the veranda, swimming, or trips into the village are all favorite activities. Visit the Huguenot Museum and discover the history of the town and its original inhabitants. The town of Franschhoek is particularly known for its delightful shopping district and excellent restaurants.

This region of South Africa is world famous for the quality of grapes (and thus wine) that it produces. Initially established by the French Huguenots in the late 17th century, the area is home to many wine estates, most of which offer wine-tasting and sell directly to the public. Many also have their own restaurants. And because tourism is a large industry in the area, most estates are happy to ship wine to the home country of the buyer. Excellent and more reasonably priced wines are also available slightly further afield around the towns of Robertson, Ashton, and Montagu.

Not too far from Franschhoek is the popular seaside town and holiday resort Hermanus. Hermanus is a well-known whale watching destination, as the whales come to birth and raise their calves in its secluded bay. The town’s annual “Whale Festival” attracts many visitors.
