Mkuze Falls Tented Lodge

Mkuze Falls Tented Lodge

Celebrate the thrill of nature at Mkuze Falls Private Game Reserve, one of only two private reserves in this part of South Africa where you can view the “big five”: leopard, lion, elephant, rhino, and buffalo. Rich in history, Zululand in South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal province gives travelers the gifts of incredible beauty, thriving wildlife, and simple serenity.

In addition to the Mkuze Falls Game Lodge, the reserve is also home to the Mkuze Falls Tented Lodge. The Tented Lodge provides an authentic “Out of Africa” experience for adventurous guests. Stilts and wooden decks support tents that overlook the Mkuze River and surrounding countryside. Wildlife frequently visits the river for the crystal-clear water, so guests thrill to see these magnificent animals flourishing in their natural environment. Each elegant, eco-friendly tent features air-conditioning, private game viewing deck, mini-bar, safe, mosquito net, en-suite bathroom, double or twin beds, and private shower.

The Mkuze Falls Private Game Reserve is truly an animal-lovers paradise, with all of the “big five” in residence as well as over 400 different bird species. Varied ecosystems such as riverine, wetland, lowveld, bushveld, and montane grassland host hippo, cheetah, crocodile, giraffe, honey badger, hyena, kudu, warthog, blue wildebeest, Burchell’s zebra, impala, and many more.

Join an open vehicle safari led by experienced field guides and rangers into the impressive Mkuze Falls Game Reserve. Both early morning and late afternoon drives are popular, with the latter including a traditional sundowner, an African safari experience of listening to the sounds as night approaches and watching a beautiful sunset. Explore the game reserve with a game walk or bird walk, allowing for more intimate encounters with some of the area’s smaller creatures.

Other activities guests enjoy are relaxing on the Mkuze Falls safari pontoon, fishing from a private dam, and enjoying relaxing treatments at the Mkuze Falls Spa.
