Ocean Eleven

Ocean Eleven

Breathe in the “champagne air,” believed to have restorative health properties at Ocean Eleven, a luxury guesthouse in the idyllic seaside town of Hermanus. This “Riviera of the South” has been a popular coastal destination for decades due to its close proximity to Cape Town (only a ninety-minute drive) as well as its exceptional whale viewing in Walker Bay, quaint shops, sandy beaches, upscale restaurants, and breathtaking views.

A coastal getaway in absolute luxury awaits guests of Ocean Eleven Guest House. Clean-lined colonial opulence characterizes the architecture and décor of the main house, complete with high ceilings, tall windows, and teak floors. Each pristine guestroom opens to expansive views over Walker Bay toward the Indian Ocean.

Three ground-level standard rooms have original floors, high ceilings, windows opening to the garden, en-suite bathroom with shower, and easy access to the swimming pool. Deluxe rooms offer more space and amenities, including en-suite bathroom with bath and shower. Both exclusive, air-conditioned suites are nestled loft-style in the old roof of the house and are best known respectively as the Honeymoon Suite and the Family Suite (a sleeper couch is included).

Whale-watching at Ocean Eleven is a trip highlight, and May to December is prime season. Traveling from their Antarctic feeding ground to the warmer waters of the Cape Coast, the magnificent southern right whales swim, interact with each other, and give birth to their young in the safety of nearby bays and coves.

A variety of thrilling outdoor adventures await guests of Ocean Eleven Guest House. Ocean cruises departing from Kleinbaai promise unforgettable marine experiences. On the 2.5 hour cruise, guests often see southern right whale, Bryde’s whale, humpback whale, cape fur seal, African penguin, great white shark, dolphin, and diverse bird species.

Nearby Dyer Island hosts great white shark cage diving and surface viewing. Guests dive with the great whites (using safety equipment!), making for a fun-filled and memorable adventure. Other popular area excursions include flying over Walker Bay while looking for whales from a small plane, sea kayaking in Walker Bay Sanctuary, touring a local winery, horseback riding, sea fishing, sand-boarding, tandem paragliding, and four-wheeling.
