Thanda Tented Camp

Thanda Tented Camp

Meaning “love” in Zulu, Thanda completely embodies its philosophy of “for the love of nature, wildlife, and dear ones.” Romance is the main feature at Thanda, from picturesque landscapes to magical foam baths by candlelight. Whether you visit for a honeymoon, wedding, proposal, or just a romantic getaway, enchanting details such as romantic turndowns and alluring meals in the bush are sure to make your stay at Thanda a truly unforgettable one.

Thanda Tented Safari Camp encourages guests to become one with nature through its authentic bush camp experience. Built in colonial safari-style, the elevated canvas tents feature en-suite canvas bathrooms, viewing decks, and generators. The main camp area includes a reception, a lounge, a dining tent, a small rim-flow pool, and a boma. A recent change at Thanda Tented Camp is that children six and above are now welcome, allowing families to enjoy a genuine safari experience together.

Fifteen minutes from the tented camp is Thanda Safari Lodge. Originally a cattle farm, the building and grounds had fallen into disrepair and had been invaded by alien plant species. Thanda needed oversight and rehabilitation to bring it back to its former glory. After much hard work and dedicated planning, Thanda emerged with a successful “big five” reintroduction program and restoration of much of the natural balance of the land.

Early morning and sunset game drives are prime opportunities to see the thriving rewards of Thanda’s environmental investment. A welcoming habitat to a variety of wildlife, the reserve boasts magnificent creatures from Africa’s coveted “big five” (lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino, and elephant) to wild dog, endangered black rhino, warthog, and an abundance of plains game and bird species.

Many other exciting excursions await guests of Thanda Tented Camp. Favorites include nighttime stargazing, breakfast or dinner in the bush, bush walks, and the lodge’s junior ranger programs and wildlife lectures.

For a fee, additional tours are offered that feature birds, hippos, crocodiles, turtles, the Border Cave, Ghost Mountain, and more. Other activities popular among guests include diving in the nearby reef, whale-watching on a chartered boat, taking part in the Marine Mammal Experience, deep-sea fishing, tiger fishing, canoeing, and hiking.
