Fumba Beach Lodge

Fumba Beach Lodge

Recognized by the World Wildlife Federation as an area of outstanding natural beauty, Fumba Peninsula is an eco-project as well as a large marine haven. Fumba Beach Lodge continues the fine tradition of conservation on forty acres of the Menai Beach conservation area on the shores of the Indian Ocean. Just thirty minutes from Stone Town, Zanzibar’s bustling capital, this secluded lodge is an ideal choice for guests seeking privacy, relaxation, tranquility, and excellent service.

Surrounded by tropical forests and protected beaches, the 26 spacious suites ensure the feeling of living in an island paradise. The majority of rooms are deluxe “banda” rooms featuring king-sized beds, fans, en-suite bathrooms, and incredible views from the terrace. Four luxury suites accommodate discerning guests with a Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired outdoor shower, direct beach access, private roof terrace, and king-sized beds. For the ultimate experience, book one of Fumba Beach Lodge’s Baobab Suites, named for the 300-year-old baobab tree that surrounds them. A highlight is the open-air bathrooms with direct access to the beach. Included in a Baobab Suite stay are king sized double beds, mosquito nets, fans, and top quality imported bed linens and quilts.

Focusing on elegant taste combined with simple presentations, the on-site chef and staff take great care to procure only the best quality ingredients for use in the creative kitchen. With a tasteful fusion of African and Mediterranean cuisine, the food at Fumba Beach is spectacular. From the fisherman’s daily catch to the special local spices to the sun-ripened fruits, vegetables, and herbs, meals at Fumba Beach Lodge are nothing short of exceptional.

In addition to beachcombing and sunbathing, guests enjoy a number of excursions and watersports. Safari Blue is a full day trip exploring the Menai Bay conservation area on traditionally handcrafted dhows. Seeing the two local dolphin species, the bottlenose and the Indo-pacific humpback, is always a high point for guests.

By dhow, take picnics and day trips to nearby islands, popular for snorkeling, fishing, and diving. A dive at Ukombe Reef is sure to be unforgettable, with its diverse sea life including numerous coral species, mackerel, nudi branch, lobster, stingray, octopus, pipefish, octopus, trigger fish, butterfly fish, Moorish idol, and the occasional turtle.

Other thrilling day trips can be arranged by the lodge’s friendly staff and include trips to historic Stone Town, Jozani Forest, and a local spice tour.
