Gombe Forest Lodge

Gombe Forest Lodge

With exceptional opportunities to view chimpanzees in their natural habitat and a breathtaking backdrop of western Tanzania’s serene Lake Tanganyika, Gombe Forest Lodge offers the best possible intimate lodge experience. Welcoming only fourteen guests at a time, this delightful lodge is set in a private forested area only steps from the shores of the lake and within the protected Gombe Stream National Park.

Gombe Camp’s main areas combine a lounge and dining area on a raised wooden deck shaded by large mango trees. Sun loungers are available for enjoying the “beach” on Africa’s second largest lake. A meal highlight is a barbeque dinner accompanied by sundowners on the beach beneath a dazzling African sky.

Colonial-style canvas tents on raised wooden decks provide the perfect rest at day’s end. Comfortable four-poster beds are draped with sheer mosquito netting, ensuring a relaxing night’s sleep. Other fine amenities include hot and cold running water, bath consumables, bedside tables, luggage rack, dressing table, bottled water, and en-suite bathroom with shower, basin, and toilet. Embrace the dawn with a cup of coffee or tea from your own private porch overlooking a lush forest.

Due to Gombe Forest Camp’s location within Gombe Streams National Park, guests have access to some of the world’s most impressive primates, including Jane Goodall’s famous chimpanzees. Tracking chimps along with an experienced naturalist and tracker is one of Gombe’s most memorable experiences. Even with dense vegetation and sometimes rising temperatures in the park, locating the chimpanzee families is extremely rewarding. Climbing to the viewpoint used by Jane Goodall also provides an exceptional view of the park, one of Tanzania’s best kept secrets.

Venture out on a walking safari and you may spot olive baboon, red-tailed colobus monkey, red colobus monkey, leopard, bushbuck, fish eagle, or palm nut vulture. Take a refreshing dip in one of the park’s meandering streams. Other exciting activities include hiking to Kakombe and Mkenke, two nearby waterfalls, and swimming, snorkeling, or simply relaxing on the lake’s serene beach.
