Hatari Lodge

Hatari Lodge

A luxury bush hotel in one of the most legendary parts of Arusha National Park, Hatari Lodge is one of Tanzania’s most secretive and compelling hideaways. Formerly part of a private home, the lodge has expanded to include three buildings nestled among sheltering acacia woodlands. Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru, craters, lakes, savannas, expansive plains, and, of course, abundant wildlife, all combine to make the lodge and surrounding area a favorite with safari-lovers worldwide.

Hatari Lodge’s main building impresses guests with spectacular views overlooking Momella Meadow that constantly teems with wildlife. Enjoy memorable views of Mount Meru and Mount Kilimanjaro each morning from the adjoining breakfast terrace. In addition to excellent cuisine featuring a fusion of modern and international favorites, Hatari Lodge includes a large central living and dining areas leading to a spacious bar, library, and more.

Each of the nine guestrooms offers an en-suite bath and open fireplace. The décor channels the style of “Hatari,” the movie for which the lodge is named. Each room features the modern/retro styles of the 60’s and 70’s combined with original Tanzanian fabrics. Local artists, craftspeople, and a unique women’s cooperative have crafted all of the decorative items at Hatari including wallpaper, ceramics, bedding, wool carpets, sisal carpets, and the art deco furniture. Many similar items are for sale at the on-site shop, MamaMomella, offering a unique way to recall an exceptional safari destination.

Take the nearby boardwalk to spacious viewing decks that overlook the Momella clearing. Here you can expect to see numerous animals at close range including buffalo, waterbuck, warthog, giraffe, numerous water birds, bush baby, and hippo.

To truly explore the 200-square-mile Arusha National Park, schedule a guided walking safari, canoeing trip, or game drive in the park. Panoramic landscapes reveal waterfalls, lakes, steep cliffs, gorges, swamps, waterholes, and more. The park’s three different habitats are home to a variety of incredible wildlife, including the highest population density of giraffe in Africa. Other magnificent species include flamingo, forest elephant, buffalo, waterbuck, bushbuck, duiker, dik dik, spotted hyena, leopard, civet, black and white colobus monkey, shining blue monkey, and Sykes monkey.
