Katuma Bush Lodge

Katuma Bush Lodge

Experience Africa as it must have felt a century ago at Katuma Bush Lodge, an idyllic retreat in the heart of Katavi National Park. Tanzania’s third largest park, Katavi is seldom visited yet offers some of the most spectacular landscapes and wildlife on the continent.

A retreat that has recently been completely refurbished, Katuma Bush Lodge blends seamlessly into its natural surroundings. African simplicity combines with modern amenities to provide guests with an optimal safari experience. The new main lodge area boasts a comfortable guest lounge, spacious dining facility, veranda with central fireplace and breathtaking views, and swimming pool deck.

Relax colonial-style in spacious canvas tents on raised wooden platforms. Further protected by a traditional thatched roof, each tent includes hardwood floors, writing desk, lamps, fine linens, and en-suite bathrooms with step-in showers. Sleep in comfort in a four-poster bed surrounded by mosquito netting before awaking to hot tea accompanied by stunning views from your own private patio, complete with chairs and coffee table.

Morning and afternoon game drives provide the best opportunities for guests to see the abundant wildlife of Katavi National Park. With fewer than 1,000 guests per year, the park remains virtually untouched by humans, and wildlife flourishes. Game drives in 4x4 vehicles center around woodland areas and seasonal lake areas inhabited by the big cats, mostly lion and leopard. Katavi is also known for its large animal herds, specifically the Cape buffalo and elephant. The Katuma River teems with crocodile and hippo, and sightings are frequent of giraffe, monitor lizard, civet, impala, topi, and many more.

A more intimate way to view Katavi’s magnificent animals is to book a walking safari, led by a highly educated guide and tracker. This is best enjoyed in the early morning when the light is at its best.

Recent guests raved about Katuma’s “amazing wildlife encounters,” “stunning views of the plains,” “abundance of un-scared wildlife,” and “really hardworking staff.”
