Kinasi Lodge

Kinasi Lodge

Taste African island life at Kinasi Lodge, a memorable resort uniquely located at an old cashew and coconut plantation on Tanzania’s Mafia Island. The surrounding natural marine park is a haven for breathtaking ocean life, and guests enjoy snorkeling, diving and more in and around Chole Bay. South of popular Zanzibar, Mafia Island provides a restful island getaway with nearly total seclusion.

With a luxurious but informal atmosphere, Kinasi Lodge is sure to feel like your “home away from home.” Whether you want to explore the oceans around you or simply relax, the helpful staff is available to meet every need. Some of the many on-site amenities include swimming pool, ISIS spa with Thai therapists, al fresco bar and dining, wine cellar, sunset bar, antique billiard/pool table, morning room service (tea and coffee), library, music system, and satellite TV.

Each traditionally designed thatch cottage boasts an eclectic “Shirazi” style that combines elements of coastal Tanzanian, African, Indian, and Arab cultures. Five Sea Front Cottages offer panoramic ocean views from a private veranda, complete with cushioned seats and hammocks. Other amenities include solar-powered electricity, oriental rugs, comfortable king or twin beds (with luxurious mosquito netting), and en-suite bathroom. All eight Garden Sea View Cottages offer similar amenities with a slightly different view from the veranda.

For guests wanting to discover the beauties of Mafia Island Marine Park, Kinasi Lodge offers a PADi dive and snorkel center. Popular with both advanced and novice divers, the Blue World Diving and Water Sports Centre provides numerous options. Whether snorkeling on the shallow reefs around the islands of Chole Bay or participating in adventure diving (night, wall, reef, and drift), the center offers something for everyone. Impressive coral gardens and their vast concentrations of marine life provide thrilling experiences and incredible photographs. For groups of up to six guests a cruise can be planned to take in the marvelous destinations of Ras Mkumbi, Forbes Bay, Kitutia Reef, Okuza and Nyuni Islands, and the reef complex surrounding Songo Songo and Njovi Islands.

Fishing, sailing, kayaking, bicycling, bird-watching, and hiking the Kinasi Nature Trail are other thrilling ways to experience the wonders of this island paradise.
