Mivumo River Lodge

Mivumo River Lodge

Mivumo River Lodge stands proudly on the banks of the languid Rufiji River and has majestic views down to the plunging torrents of Stiegler's Gorge.

The lodge offers twelve luxurious air-conditioned rooms housed in timber chalets that are traditionally thatched. Each chalet comes with a private viewing deck and plunge pool and features high vaulted ceilings and picture windows. The décor is a satisfying mix of classic safari antiques, contemporary, and rattan furniture. The rooms have LCD TV and luxury bathrooms with al fresco showers.

The central dining room, lounge, library, and bar are spacious, each in its own timber and thatch chalet which are all interconnected by timber walkways. These common areas afford excellent views of hippo and elephant on the riverbank below. An infinity pool and sundeck play host to both relaxation and game watching, and the exclusive aromatherapy spa entices residents with natural massages, scrubs, and body wraps.

The lodge is in the Selous National Reserve, which is a mere 45 minute's flight from Dar es Salaam International Airport. A meet and greet service is offered from Stiegler's Airstrip. The spectacular Selous Game Reserve is a World Heritage Site and the largest expanse of game reserve in Africa, covering 55,000 square kilometres of rolling savannah, lakes, rivers, and deltas.

In addition to the inviting dining room, Mivumo is proudly expert at arranging breakfasts, lunches, dinners and cocktails in the bush. Sun-downer cocktails are offerend round a campfire each evening and are customarily followed by a bush dinner under the stars. Fire-lit lamps create a romantic safari atmosphere.

Another classic safari moment is the early morning game drive and bush breakfast. The goal is to set out early in pursuit of the Big 5 and then meet up with the camp staff for a full English breakfast. Not to mention the bush dinner, timed to coincide with a spectacular African sunset.

Family time is important at Mivumo River Lodge, and although the unique nature of the lodge does not make it suitable for children under six, the lodge does offer wide range of family-friendly accommodation options, children's dining, baby-sitting, and plenty of adventure, sports, and educational entertainment for children of all ages.
