Sabora Tented Camp

Sabora Tented Camp

In the heart of Tanzania’s iconic Serengeti lies an elegant retreat evocative of a bygone era. Sabora Tented Camp offers a matchless eco-safari within the Grumeti Reserves. Since the days of famous explorers, travelers have come to the area to experience the million-strong wildebeest migration. Reminiscent of the early twentieth century, antique mahogany travel chests, Arabic coffeepots silk curtains, and Persian rugs imbue the camp with a timeless magic.

Nine sumptuous, air-conditioned tents recall the elegant, colonial era of a century ago. En-suite bathrooms with an outside bath and shower enhance each suite, and a dressing area, reading area, viewing deck with Swarovski spotting scope, a library lounge tent, and more complete the luxurious accommodations. The curtains can be drawn back for exhilarating game views, and tents are situated to encourage incredible animal interaction. The nine suites can accommodate eighteen total guests.

The main area of the camp offers an elevated viewing deck, swimming pool, dining room, bar lounge with satellite television, DVD player, and library. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner as well as teas, coffees, and premium wines are provided daily, and chefs strive to create an incredible dining experience using locally grown, organic produce, Zanzibar spices, and fresh-picked herbs. Guests are not limited to eating meals in the dining room, however, and can enjoy the chef’s delights under a lamp-lit acacia tree, on the viewing deck overlooking the busy waterhole, or beneath a “sausage” tree beneath moonlit skies.

Twice-daily Land Rover safaris provide ample opportunities to view a wide variety of creatures in their natural habitat including elephant, zebra, giraffe, lion and, of course, wildebeest. The area has been carefully conserved, and travelers can experience Sabora’s beauty through stargazing safaris, biking, and horse-back riding. A unique way to view Serengeti is by booking a balloon safari (not included in regular rate). Other activities such as archery, tennis, and shopping are also available.
