Selous Luxury Camp

Selous Luxury Camp

Selous Luxury Camp is the premiere retreat on the Zema River in southern Tanzania’s Selous Game Reserve. A 45-minute flight from Dar-es-Salaam to the local airstrip and then a 45-minute drive will find you at the camp.

Set in an indigenous forest, the camps’ twelve well appointed and spacious safari-style tents have thatch roofs, viewing decks, and colonial style bathrooms. The tent interiors are luxurious with a blend of canvas, chandeliers, thick rugs, and rich timber furnishings. The tents are so placed that game viewing is at its best while at the same time remaining private and exclusive.

The Selous Game Reserve is a World Heritage Site that covers 55,000 square kilometres, four times the size of the Serengeti. It is home to the largest concentrations of elephants in the world and offers some of the most unique boating safaris in Africa.

The dining area is on a slightly raised timber deck that has open sides and views over the natural waterhole. Exclusive seating areas, an elegant library, a lounge, and a safari bar complete the picture. But guests will gravitate to the waterhole to observe elephant and other game as they come and go.

Breakfast and lunch are buffet style with a culinary variety that will suit all palates . Dinner table d’hôte menus are comprehensive and can be enjoyed with a variety of old and new world wines as well as imported and local beers.

Activities feature morning and evening game drives, and you will often be the only vehicle in the area. Other activities include guided bush walks, bush and bank picnics, fishing trips, sun-downer river cruises, beauty treatment and spa massages, and leisurely evenings at the waterhole.
