Tanzanian Highlights

This thirteen-day safari seeks to provide an exciting introduction to the landscape and wildlife of Tanzania. From the seasonal grasslands of Tarangire National Park to the ancient forests and marshy floodplains of Lakes Manyara and Eyasi to the legendary vistas of the Serengeti, this journey promises unparalleled outdoor experiences and wildlife encounters.

The Tanzanian Highlights safari is centered around frequent but diverse game drives. Tarangire National Park is renowned for its elephant herds and is also home to lion, giraffe, and many antelope species—all of which crowd around the disappearing Tarangire River during the dry season but scatter over 12,500 square miles of grasslands in the rainy season. Stretching for 30 miles along the base of the Rift Valley escarpment, Lake Manyara is a scenic gem, immortalized by Hemingway as “the loveliest I’ve seen in Africa.” The lake itself is home to concentrated hippo and fowl populations, its floodplains to large herds of wildebeest, zebra, and giraffe, and its acacia woodland to the infamous tree-climbing lions and impressive elephant herds. But perhaps most unique is its dense and ancient groundwater forests that shelter a rarer variety of African animals including baboons, blue monkeys, bushbuck, and forest hornbills.

And, of course, Tanzania’s Serengeti needs no introduction. One of the world’s seven natural wonders, the region is most famous for the annual migrations of innumerable wildebeest, buffalo, zebra, elephant, giraffe, and a dozen antelope species. And where this density of grazers is, the predators are never far behind.
