Bwindi Lodge

Bwindi Lodge

Bwindi Lodge overlooks Uganda’s incredible Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. At an altitude of between 3,500 and 8,500 feet, the park is regarded as one of the most biologically diverse forests in Africa. It is spread over a series of ridges and valleys that form the eastern edge of the Albertine Rift.

The park is home to more than 300 mountain gorilla and around 120 other mammal species. These include eleven primate types such as black and white colobus, red-tailed and blue monkey, and chimpanzee. Bwindi is also one of the principle birding destinations in Uganda with more than 350 bird species on record.

Guests can track three different gorilla families, but the limited number of available permits means that advanced booking is essential. The time spent tracking is between three and eight hours, while the time spent with the gorillas is approximately one hour. Gorillas are found in the thick forest, which makes for tricky tracking, especially given the steep hillsides. However, no one has yet denied that seeing the gorilla in their natural habitat is not worth the trip!

Bwindi Lodge is a comfortable eco-lodge with eight bandas. It is constructed of local materials and has an authentic African feel. The bandas have en-suite eco-bathrooms with bush showers and composting toilets. From the camp guests can clearly hear the screeching of chimpanzee, the grunting of gorilla, and the calls of innumerable birds. The lodge itself is becoming a favorite haunt of the gorilla, as they have been found sleeping here!

Meals at Bwindi Lodge are fresh and wholesome, combining local and Western cuisines. A dining room and veranda restaurant offer breathtaking views of the valley, and the terrace juts out into the forest making it the perfect place to drink in the awe-inspiring sights and sounds of the forest.

In addition to the gorilla tracking and wildlife viewing, guests enjoy hikes to the nearby waterfalls and guided tours of the local community.

Bwindi Lodge is a one-hour flight from Entebbe and six-hour drive from Kigali.
