Jacana Safari Lodge

On the shores of Uganda’s Crater Lake (Lake Nyamusingire) lies a spectacular treehouse lodge known as Jacana Safari Lodge. An extension of the tropical hardwood forest, Jacana seamlessly blends natural elements of rock, wood, rope, and textured material to create an organic yet elegant lodge. Nearby, Queen Elizabeth National Park teems with vast concentrations of diverse wildlife.

Ten private chalets nestle in the verdant Maramagambo Forest. Each boasts unique décor as well as en-suite bathroom, continuous hot water, enclosed veranda, expansive windows, and amazing views. One of the cottages features two conjoined rooms, an ideal set-up for families. Each morning, enjoy early morning tea and coffee served by your personal waiter as you watch the morning break over spectacular Crater Lake.

Part of the main lodge, the Virunga Lounge features a large stone fireplace, comfortable lounging sofas, handmade Persian carpets, rock accents, and open-plan design that encourages guests to share their African adventures. The bar and dining room serve delectable food and refreshing drinks. The lower deck and Sundowner Bar overlook Lake Nyamusingire, and steps lead to the Captain’s Table, a floating pontoon for meals and lake excursions. Swimming pool, sauna, and massage area are the perfect complement a day of exciting activities in the jungle.

A true safari experience thrills guests with spectacular game drives, and those offered at Jacana are no exception. Queen Elizabeth National Park’s Mweya peninsula boasts a thriving animal population, from buffalo, elephant, and warthog to leopard, lion, and antelope. In the park’s southern Ishasha sector, tree-climbing lions are the highlight, and experienced Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers lead expeditions to find these magnificent creatures.

In addition to game drives, game “walks” are another wonderful way to experience the forest in a more intimate way. The region offers superb bird and butterfly viewing. Boat cruises on the Kazinga Channel allow for glimpses of hippo, crocodile, and elephant, while kayaks are available at the lodge for exploration of Lake Nyamusingire. At the end of their stay, delighted guests leave with unforgettable memories of their time at Jacana Safari Lodge.
