Journeys with Insight

In the shade of a grove of trees near the Manzi River lies Kuyenda, a classic African bushcamp. As one of the many tributaries of the mightier Luangwa River, the Manzi waters the surrounding plains and attracts a diversity of wildlife. South Luangwa National Park is renowned for its unspoiled ecosystem and remains to this day one of Zambia’s premiere ecotourism destinations. The region’s wildlife includes an incredible diversity of fowl, dozens of major antelope species, herds of countless plains game, remarkable concentrations of hippo and crocodile, and, most coveted, significant prides of lion, leaps of leopard, and packs of wild dog.

Peering out from the forest’s edge across the surrounding savanna is Kuyenda. Its thatched huts, paraffin lanterns, mosquito netting, and open-air en-suite bathrooms lend the camp an authentic classic safari feel. Often guests have to look no further than out their front door to encounter the region’s wildlife as it is not uncommon for the plains game to wander directly through the camp. Guided walking safari’s, for which Luangwa is famous, are the most prized activity, but the camp also offers daily and nightly game drives which promise once-in-a-lifetime animal encounters.
